Liam Fletcher
Licensed General Contractor & DIY Construction Writer
Liam Fletcher has been on construction sites for most of his working life and spent a good portion of that time watching perfectly capable people make expensive mistakes because they got the numbers wrong before the first nail went in. A wall framed two inches short. A concrete order that came up a quarter yard short on pour day. A tile job that ran out of material on the final row. He has seen all of it, and most of it was avoidable with a reliable calculation done before the work started.
He studied Construction Management at Oregon State University, graduating in 2009 into one of the worst construction markets in recent memory. He spent his first two years after graduation working for a small residential contractor in Portland, learning the practical side of the trade from the ground up while the broader industry recovered. By 2012 he had earned his Licensed General Contractor certification through the Oregon Construction Contractors Board and started taking on his own residential projects, primarily kitchen and bathroom renovations, deck builds, and basement conversions across the Portland metro area.
Over the following decade Liam built and renovated more than sixty residential properties across Oregon and Southwest Washington, managing everything from initial material takeoffs to final inspections. He started writing about construction and home improvement on the side after realising that most of the online resources available to DIY builders were either too vague to be useful or written by people who had clearly never held a circular saw. At Bro Calculator, he writes and reviews all tools in the Construction and Everyday categories, drawing on fifteen years of hands-on experience to make sure every formula reflects what actually happens on a real job site rather than what looks good in a textbook.
