Jose Smith

Jose Smith spent nine years at the front of a classroom before he realized his real talent was breaking math down until it stopped being scary.

He taught middle and high school mathematics in Charlotte, North Carolina, covering everything from pre-algebra to AP Statistics. The most common thing he heard from students was some version of: "I just don't get why we'd ever use this." So he made it his job to answer that question with actual examples, not textbook theory.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he graduated in 2012. During his time in the classroom, he built custom worksheets, formula sheets, and quick-reference guides that his students actually used, not the kind that got stuffed in a backpack and forgotten. In 2021, he left full-time teaching to focus on educational content writing, applying the same "explain it like a real person" approach he used with his students.

At Bro Calculator, Jose writes and reviews tools in the Math and Statistics categories. His job is to make sure every formula on the page is correct, every example uses real numbers, and every explanation makes sense to someone who hasn't thought about algebra since high school. He approaches each calculator page the same way he used to approach a lesson plan: start with what the person actually needs to know, and cut everything else.
